Description
Consolidation sticks are used for compressing the sections of a text-block during sewing. They offer more control and avoid rubbing or bruising the text-block between the bands.
Each set comes as a pair of two sticks (45cm long), providing a range of widths from 20mm to 80mm. Made from high-quality birch ply and neatly finished, these are a must-have for any book conservator tasked with re-sewing a fragile book; particularly anyone working on a parchment manuscript.
Developed by Conservator Christopher Clarkson. For more information, see: Clarkson, Christopher (1995). Thoughts on Sewing Frame Design for the Book Conservator. The Paper Conservator, Vol. 19, pp. 41-54.
